RPPe Speaker reaffirms House commitment to support PBBM’s initiatives aimed at boosting Filipino farmer’s productivity

Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez today reaffirmed the unwavering support of the House of Representatives for the initiatives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. aimed at enhancing the productivity of Filipino farmers.

This developed after the Speaker accompanied President Marcos, Jr. at the turnover of 148 newly-acquired heavy equipment with an aggregate cost of P782 million for the National Irrigation Administration at Construction City in Mexico, Pampanga Wednesday morning.

The acquisition of new excavators, trailer trucks, and dumpers, is the 2nd tranche of NIA’s 3-Year Refleeting Program and would be used in the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems nationwide to help boost the productivity of Filipino farmers.

“The House of Representatives stands firmly behind President Marcos Jr.’s vision of a more productive and resilient agricultural sector. Our farmers are the backbone of our nation, and it is our duty to provide them with the necessary support to thrive,” said Speaker Romualdez.

He noted the importance of bolstering the agricultural sector to ensure foods security, achieve sustainable growth and improve the livelihood of Filipino farmers.

In line with this commitment, Speaker Romualdez said the House will thoroughly scrutinize the proposed PHP6.352 trillion National Expenditure Program for 2025, particularly the specific allocations meant to further strengthen the country’s irrigation systems.

According to the Department of Budget and Management, the government has allocated P42 billion for 2025 to improve the irrigation system in the country.

“The proposed PHP42 billion allocation for irrigation is a testament to our dedication to improving agricultural productivity. By ensuring that our farmers have access to adequate water resources, we can significantly increase crop yields and boost their income,” Speaker Romualdez said.

“The House of Representatives will conduct a detailed review of the proposed budget to ensure that the funds are utilized effectively and efficiently,” added the leader of the 300-plus strog House of Representatives.

In his message during the turnover of the equipment in Mexico, Pampanga, President Marcos, Jr. cited the key role of Speaker Romualdez in ensuring the acquisition of the new heavy equipment for use of the NIA.

“Nandito rin po, the House Speaker, who was instrumental in making sure that the budget was restored so that we are able to do this,” President Marcos said. (END)
