RPPt Cassandra Li Ong nasa kustodiya na ng Kamara

Nasa kustodiya na ng Kamara de Representantes si Katherine Cassandra Li Ong, na sangkot umano sa operasyon ng iligal na Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO).

Ito ang kinumpirma sa isang panayam kay Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, ang overall chairperson ng quad committee ng Kamara na nag-iimbestiga sa kaugnayan ng POGO, bentahan ng iligal na droga, at extrajudicial killings sa mga drug personalities.

Dumami ang mga POGO hub sa bansa noong panahon ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.

Si Ong, ang authorized representative ng POGO hub sa Porac, Pampanga, ay ibinigay ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) sa Kamara, na nauna ng naglabas ng arrest warrant dahil sa hindi nito pagdalo sa mga ipinatawag na imbestigasyon.

Opisyal na tinanggap ni House Sergeant-at-Arms, retired Police Maj. Gen. Napoleon Taas, ang kustodiya ni Ong alas-12:57 ng hapon. Ang turnover papers ay nilagdaan ni NBI Assistant Director Winmar Ramos.

Ayon sa turnover papers, si Ong ay nabasahan ng kanyang karapatan kasama na ang pananahimik at pagkuha ng abugado. 

Si Ong ay nahaharap sa kasong paglabag sa Section 1(c) ng Presidential Decree No. 1829 at Section 45(h) ng Commonwealth Act No. 613, o ang “Philippine Immigration Act of 1940.”

Matatandaan na si Ong ay na-cite in contempt ng komite ng Kamara matapos ang paulit-ulit na hindi pagsipot sa imbitasyon na humarap sa isinasagawang imbestigasyon kaugnay ng Lucky South 99, ang POGO hub sa Porac na ni-raid kamakailan.

"Mahalaga si Cassandra Li Ong because she is our only link to Lucky South 99 and other illegal POGO hubs that were raided by the PAOCC. Malaki ang participation niya because she appears to be the liaison between these illegal POGOs and PAGCOR,” sabi ni Barbers sa isang panayam nitong Lunes.

“We also need to obtain information from her about the owners, lawyers, and incorporators involved in these operations, because it's clear that there are numerous illegal activities going on. The first question we need to ask her is whether she was aware of the scam hubs, torture, prostitution, and other illicit activities. Cassandra Li Ong is a very vital resource person in the quad-committee’s investigation into illegal POGOs,” dagdag pa nito.

Sa hiwalay na panayam, iginiit ni Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido “Benny” Abante Jr. na mahalaga si Ong upang masagot ang maraming isyu kaugnay ng koneksyon ng dating spokesman ni dating Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na si Harry Roque sa Lucky South 99.

"The quad-committee intends to invite Ms. Ong to our next hearing to shed light on critical issues. For instance, her testimony will help us ascertain the true nature of Atty. Harry Roque's ties to Lucky South 99,” ani Abante. “During our hearings, Atty. Roque has insisted that he is not representing this POGO, despite substantial evidence suggesting otherwise.”

Nauna ng sinabi ni Roque na wala itong kinalaman sa Lucky South 99 at ang kanyang kliyente ay ang Whirlwind Corporation na nagpapa-upa sa naturang POGO.

“However, given that Atty. Roque is an experienced lawyer, it is hard to believe that he is unaware that Cassandra Ong is not only the president of Whirlwind, a supposed real estate firm, but also the president of Lucky South 99, which actually owns the POGO hub,” punto ni Abante.

“As the saying goes, 'If it walks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it is most likely a duck.' The actions of Atty. Roque on behalf of Lucky South 99 contradict his words, and we believe Ms. Ong can help us settle this matter once and for all,” giit pa nito.

Tiniyak ng Kamara na igagalang ang karapatan ni Ong at bibigyan ito ng angkop na seguridad habang nasa kanilang kustodiya.

Ang imbestigasyon ng mga komite ng Kamara ay nagsanga-sanga na at nag-ugnay sa mga personalidad noong nakaraang administrasyon.

Nanawagan ang quad committee sa mga mayroong alam sa isyung iniimbestigahan na lumantad at makipagtulungan sa imbestigasyon. (END)
