Political catfight: Rep. Amante’s wife to run vs. alleged mistress for mayor

Hell hath no fury than a wife scorned.

The wife of Agusan del Norte Rep. Erlpe John Amante is set to run for mayor of Cabadbaran City against his alleged mistress, a scion of a politican clan whom he has reportedly taken to introducing as his “soulmate.”

In a press conference, Judy Chin-Amante confirmed her plan to run for mayor. She said she is hopeful that her sister-in-law, Gov. Maria Angelica Amante-Matba, will support her bid though the latter has yet to announce who she will be backing in the upcoming polls.

Amante-Matba is reportedly at odds with her lawmaker-brother.

“I am hoping Governor Angel will support me in 2016. My children want me to do this, to do something right for the people. My late parents-in-law served Cabadbaran well. If only they were alive today, I know deep in their hearts they won’t allow these things to happen to us,” said Chin-Amante.

Amante’s wife’s mayoralty bid will pit her against Katrina Mortola, the lawmaker’s alleged mistress, and provincial board member Rey Jamboy.

Chin-Amante said her estranged husband has been planning for Mortola to become mayor for quite some time.

“My husband has been going around the (city’s) barangays for months now with his mistress for political consultations. He had been planning this early to push his mistress to run for mayor in Cabadbaran,” she said.
