FRIGATE PROJECT ABOVEBOARD: Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana assures members of the House committee on national defense chaired by Rep. Amado Espino, Jr. (5th District, Pangasinan) that the frigate project is aboveboard. Lorenzana, one of the resource persons in the meeting said the DND “is ensuring, and we will continue to ensure, that the procurement process for the frigates is done and completed in accordance with” Republic Act (RA) 9184 and RA 10349. The committee deliberated on House Resolutions 1589 which calls for an investigation on the relief of Navy Flag Officer In Command (FOIC) Vice Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado over the P16-billion frigate deal and 1590 which seeks to probe the Philippine Navy Frigate Acquisition Project. Others in attendance during the hearing are Deputy Speaker Sharon Garin, Reps. Abdullah Dimaporo, Mohamad Khalid Dimaporo, Makmod Mending, Jr., Rozzano Rufino Biazon, Manuel Jose Dalipe, Romeo Acop, Henry Ong,  Ciriaco Calalang, Mariano Michael Velarde, Mario Vittorio Marino, Federico  Sandoval II, Antonio Tinio, Leopoldo Bataoil and Gus Tambunting.  Also invited to the hearing are Rear Admiral Empedrad, Flag Officer-In-Command and other officials of the Philippine Navy and Vice Admiral Roald Joseph Mercado, former Flag Officer-In-Command, PN. / MVI Palomar/P Camero
