Alvarez advises MIAA to stop issuing IDs to delinquent hangar lessees
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Wednesday advised the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to no longer issue identification cards (IDs) to those companies that are delinquent in the payment of their rentals of hangars.
Alvarez was in a meeting of the committee on transportation on airport concerns.
The panel is tackling House Resolution No. 1649 entitled “Resolution Strongly Urging The Department Of Transportation And The Manila International Airport To Present A Rationalization Program Of The Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminals T Ensure A Safe, Efficient, And Comfortable Passenger Experience” authored by Rep Cesar Sarmineto.
When asked by Alvarez about payment of rental fees of hangars, MIAA General Manager Eddie Monreal disclosed that rental fees that need to be collected from companies renting the hangars amount to about P100 million.
Despite this non-payment, Monreal said the delinquent companies are still there and that MIAA has started taking action against them.
Alvarez said MIAA should stop issuing IDs so that these delinquent rental leases would not be allowed to enter the hangar areas anymore.
“Wag ninyong bigyan ng ID. Tapos file na ng kaso kaso nagba-balloon yun di pa rin sila nagbabayad so lumalaki yung utang,” he said.
Monreal thanked the Speaker for the reinforcement and said they would enforce the policy of not issuing the IDs immediately.
The Speaker also advised MIAA to refer to the Office of the Solicitor General the case regarding ownership of the Philippine Village Hotel being contested by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) and a certain Panlilio situated on land owned by the MIAA.
Alvarez asked MIAA if they have intervened in the case or made a manifestation to the warring entities to transfer the building because MIAA will use the land for a possible terminal site.
“Bakit nadadamay ang gobyerno sa away nila? Ang pinagtatalunan nila ownership of the building hindi yung lupa,” he said.
“Mag intervene kayo sa kaso, mag manifest kayo for them to transfer the building kasi gagamitin nyo yung lupa…ilipat nila. Ngayon pag ayaw nilang ilipat, gibain nyo. Yung giniba niyo ibigay niyo sa kanila hindi kayo may ari nung nagiba.”
Alvarez told MIAA to ready the detailed engineering plan for the extension of the Terminal 2. (MVIP)
