RPPt Kamara pinagtibay resolusyon ng papuri kay Yulo iba pang Pinoy athlete na sumabak sa Paris Olympics

Tatlong resolusyon ang pinagtibay ng Kamara de Representantes na bumabati at kumikilala kay double Olympic Gold medal winner Carlos Edriel Yulo, Bronze medalists Nesthy Alcayde Petecio, at Aira Cordero Villegas, at iba pang atleta na kumatawan sa Pilipinas sa 2024 Summer Olympics sa Paris, France.

Kasama sa pinagtibay ng Kamara ang resolusyon na naggagawad ng Congressional Medal of Distinction kina Petecio, na nanalo ng Bronze medal sa 57-kilogram boxing event, at Villegas, na nag-uwi ng Bronze medal sa 50-kilogram boxing competition.

Noong nakaraang linggo ay pinagtibay ng Kamara ang House Resolution (HR) No. 1864 na naggagawad kay Yulo ng Congressional Medal of Excellence, ang pinakamataas na reward na ibinibigay ng Kamara sa mga Filipino achievers sa larangan ng sports, pagnenegosyo, science, at arts and culture.

Ngayong Lunes, Agosto 12, pinagtibay ng Kamara ang HR No. 1915, kung saan isinama ang iba pang resolusyon, na naggagawad ng Congressional Medal of Distinction kay Petecio at ang HR No. 1916, kung saan isinama ang iba pang resolusyon, para naman sa Congressional Medal of Distinction ni Villegas.

Pinagtibay din ng Kamara ang HR No. 1917, na kumikilala sa lahat ng atletang Pilipino na kumatawan sa Pilipinas sa Paris Olympics.

Nasa 22 ang mga Pilipino na lumaban sa katatapos na Olympics. Ito ay sina Yulo, Aleah Finnegan, Emma Malabuyo at Levi Ruivivar para sa artistic gymnastics;  Villegas, Petecio, Hergie Bacyadan, Carlo Paalam, at Eumir Marcial sa larangan ng boxing; Ernest John Obiena, John Cabang-Tolentino at Lauren Hoffman para sa athletics; Vanessa Sarno, John Febuar Ceniza at Elreen Ann Ando para sa weightlifting; Joanie Delgaco para sa rowing; Samantha Catantan para sa fencing; Kayla Sanchez at Jarod Hatch para sa swimming; Pagdanganan at Dottie Ardina para sa golf; at Kiyomi Watanabe para sa  judo.

Ang tatlong resolusyon ay akda nina Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, Senior Deputy Speaker at Pampanga 3rd District Rep. Aurelio Gonzales Jr., Deputy Speaker at Quezon Rep. David “Jay-jay” Suarez, Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe, Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan, Senior Deputy Majority Leader at Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” A. Marcos III, at Reps. Yedda K. Romualdez, at Jude Acidre ng Tingog Partylist.

“In a stunning display of exceptional strength, discipline, and perseverance, the Filipino athletes and their respective coaches and trainers led the Philippines to a spectacular 2024 Paris Summer Olympic finish, ranking first among all Southeast Asian countries and 37th all over the world,” sabi ng mga may-akda sa resolusyon.

“Coinciding with the country’s 100th year of participation in the Olympics in the same venue in 1924, this year’s triumph stands out as the most impressive finish in the country’s Olympic history, bringing immense pride and joy to the whole nation, uniting the country in celebration, and earning the respect and admiration not only of fellow Filipinos but also citizens of other Southeast Asian nations,” sabi pa ng mga ito.

Sinabi ng mga mambabatas na nagpakita ng “stellar performance” ang mga atletang Pilipino sa katatapos na Olympics at nahigitan pa ang narating ng bansa sa 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Ayon sa mga mambabatas naitala ni Yulo sa kasaysayan ng bansa ang pagkapanalo ng dalawang gintong medalya.

“The steadfast determination, athletic prowess, confidence, and patriotism exhibited by the athletes and coaches of the Philippine delegation in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics showcased the tenacity of Filipinos to prevail in the pursuit of excellence and elevated the Philippines as a dominant force with athletes of exceptional abilities in the Olympics,” sabi ng mga solon.

Sa isang hinawalay na resolusyon, kinilala ni Speaker Romualdez at mga kasama nito ang narating ni Perecio na natalo sa pamamagitan ng split decision kay Julia Szeremeta ng Poland.

“Nesthy Petecio is the first Filipino boxer to win two Olympic medals, first Filipino to win an Olympic medal in women’s boxing, and fourth Filipino to win two Olympic medals, joining the prestigious list of athletes from the Philippines such as swimmer Teofilo Yldefonso, weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz and gymnast Carlos Yulo who won more than one medal in the Olympics,” sabi ng mga solon.

“For her impressive and remarkable performance during the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics that brought immense pride and inspiration to the Filipino people, and sealed the consistency, excellence, and place of Filipino women boxers in the international arena, Nesthy Petecio deserves utmost recognition and commendation,” dagdag pa ng mga ito.

Kinilala rin ng mga mambabatas ang narating ni Villegas.

“Her victory against Wassila Lkhadiri of France via split decision made her qualify for the semi-final round against Buse Naz Cakiroglu of Turkiye. Despite her defeat against Buse Naz Cakiroglu, Aira Villegas secured a bronze medal for the Philippines on her Olympic debut,” sabi ng mga ito.

Si Villegas, na taga-Tacloban City, ay nagpakita umano ng interes sa boxing sa edad na 9.

“Motivated by her desire to support her parents and win medals for the country like her brothers, Aira Villegas joined the Association of Boxing Alliance in the Philippines at the age of sixteen, and moved from Tacloban to Manila to professionally pursue boxing,” sabi ng mga solon.

Mahigit 10,500 atleta mula sa 206 National Olympic Committees ng iba’t ibang bansa ang lumaban sa 329 event sa 32 sports at 48 disciplines ng katatapos na kompetisyon. (END)
